Our commitment
Barbarian Facilities Management Limited believes that everyone has the right to be safe from harm. Our staff may come into contact with children, young people and adults at risk in shops, venues, events and public places, and we take our responsibility to protect them seriously.
Principles
- The welfare of the child or adult at risk is the first consideration
- Everyone has a responsibility to act on a concern; no one should assume someone else will
- Concerns are recorded, shared only with those who need to know and handled sensitively
- Staff are supported when they raise concerns in good faith
What staff must do
- Complete safeguarding awareness training as part of induction and refresh it regularly
- Recognise signs of abuse, neglect, exploitation and vulnerability, including a person in distress or at risk of harm
- If someone is in immediate danger, call 999
- Report any concern to the supervisor or the nominated safeguarding lead without delay, and write it down factually
- Never promise to keep a disclosure secret, and never investigate it themselves
Safe working practice
Staff must behave professionally and appropriately with children and vulnerable people, avoid being alone with them where possible, and must never engage in inappropriate contact. Where roles require it, appropriate criminal record checks are carried out under our Recruitment and Vetting Policy.
Responsibilities and review
A nominated director acts as safeguarding lead and decides when to refer concerns to the police, local authority or other agencies. This policy is reviewed annually and after any safeguarding incident.
